2D CAD
2D CAD के भी बहुत सारे applications होते हैं, लेकिन इसे सबसे ज्यादा vector-based layouts design करने के लिए उपयोग भी किया जाता है .
उदाहरण के तौर पर हम बात करे तो, architects CAD software को Building Floor Plans और Outdoor Landscapes के overhead views को create करने के लिए उपयोग करते हैं . इनके layouts, जिसमें vector graphics की होते हैं , उन्हें scale अलग अलग sizes में किया जा सकता है , जिन्हें की proposals और blueprints में उपयोग किया जाता है .
2D CAD drawings के अंतर्गत आते हैं , जैसे की sketches और mockups, जो की बहुत ही common प्रकार के होते हैं किसी एक design process करने के लिए वो भी शुरुवाती दौर में.
3D CAD
3D CAD का सबसे ज्यादा उपयोग video games और animated films को develop करने के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है. वही पर इसके बहुत से real-world applications भी आते हैं, जैसे की product design, simulation modelling, और civil engineering.
3D CAD computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) के अंतर्गत आते हैं , जिसमें की three-dimensional objects की actual manufacturing भी की होती है.
2D CAD drawings के तरह ही, 3D models भी typically vector-based भी होते हैं, लेकिन ये vectors three dimensions, न की two dimensions के अंतर्गत आते है . ये अब allow भी designers को create करने के लिए complex 3D shapes करता है जिसे की move, rotate, enlarge, और modify आसानी से किया जा सकता है.
कुछ 3D models को आसानी से create किया जाता है वो भी केवल polygons से ही, वही दूसरों Bézier curves और rounded surfaces के अंतर्गत में आते हैं .
जब एक 3D model को create किया जाता है, तब एक CAD designer को सबसे पहले उसे आपको construct भी करना पड़ता है उस object की basic shape, या “wireframe.” में
एक बार अगर shape पूर्ण हो जाये, तब फिर surfaces को उसमें add भी किया जाता है जिसमें colors, gradients, या designs भी आते हैं जिन्हें की एक process के द्वारा apply भी किया जाता है जिसे की texture mapping भी कहा जाता है.
ज्यादातर CAD programs में ये जो ability भी होती है जिससे की lighting को आसानी से adjust भी किया जा सके, जो की Objects की shadows और reflections पर उसे affect भी करती हैं .और कुछ programs के अंतर्गत एक timeline भी होता है जिसका 3D animations create करने के लिए उपयोग भी होता है .
